Trinean

Trinean is a developer and producer of nanoliter spectrophotometers and consumables for the scientific market.
The use of a unique polychromatic spectroscopy system combined with microfluidic chips in microplate format, provides the world-wide scientists a gain of time, accuracy and costly samples and reagents, which is of high importance to the biotech applications.
Trinean was founded as a spin-off from the University of Ghent and IMECin September 2006. The founders of Trinean are Bert Luyssaert, KrisNaessens and Ronny Bockstaele, three optical engineers with a degree inelectrical engineering from the University of Ghent.
Driven by a strong spirit of entrepreneurship and an innovativeattitude, they recognized that advancing towards small-scaled methodsin life sciences demands the development of versatile instrumentationcapable of rapid analysis of minute samples. As a result, theydeveloped a new approach for measuring microliter samples, based ontheir expertise in both spectrometry and microfluidics.
She first product by Trinean is the DropSense96® , a multi-channel spectrophotometer in combination with disposable microfluidic chips (DropPlate16/96®), suitable for quick & precise spectral analysisof microliter droplets of DNA, RNA, protein or small compounds. Patentsowned by Trinean cover both microfluidic structures and multi-channelspectrometry for microliter sample handling.
Trinean is a privately owned company and has been supported bysubstantial research and development grants from the Flemishgovernment.
The use of a unique polychromatic spectroscopy system combined with microfluidic chips in microplate format, provides the world-wide scientists a gain of time, accuracy and costly samples and reagents, which is of high importance to the biotech applications.
The optical instruments developed by Trinean are based on two scalable features: patent protected microfluidic structures for microliter sample handling and a novel multi-channel spectrometry system. The combination of these two innovative technologies opens a broad range of applications where the reduction in sample size and increase of the throughput results in important advantages in terms of cost, measurement speed and accuracy.
The first product developed by Trinean is the DropSense96®, a unique microliter plate reader combined with microfluidic DropPlate16/96® chips. This new generation of polychromatic microliter spectrophotometer and consumables will be suitable for high throughput UV-VIS spectral analysis of 0,5-2,5 µl droplets in manual or automated labs. Using the intuitive software, the sample wells containing a specimen can be selected by a click on a button and the full UV/VIS absorption spectrum of the samples is displayed. The DropSense96 is connected to a PC for display of the data and additional printing or storage. Furthermore, the user software is flexible, easy to use and compatible with Microsoft excel or/and an external databases or LIMS systems.
